Roma Community Leaders
Many young Roma are widely exposed to social exclusion which turns into inter-generational transmission of poverty. This results into vicious circle where socially excluded Roma young people are in even more danger of suffering from deprivation, social and emotional marginalization. Roma marginalized youth are defined as hard to reach out due to the complexity and inherited marginalized social status. Apathy that to some extent can be interpreted as lack of knowledge for civic engagement by the Roma young people is a common element for many Roma youth generations. In such conditions, most likely they would never take some initiatives by themselves to encounter their status. Many public opinion researches refers to the perception of Roma citizens that many Roma and Non Roma entities take advantage on the Roma community, such as buying Roma votes, wrong representation, raising right wing political radicalism due to the weak organized Roma communities.
They also believe that the democratic power and potential of their communities can lead to greater social and political status. In this context, Roma young people miss knowledge and skills for self organizing and community leadership.
This project is proposed as a consolidated response to the challenges faced by Roma and Non Roma youth organisations and youth workers attempting to promote the participation and empowerment of young Roma. It is expected that building capacity of youth workers on leadership and community organizing concepts will have multiplying effect, affecting Roma young people to combat and overcome the consequences of marginalization and to contribute to the social inclusion. With this project we’re going to target the following objectives that are aligned with the Erasmus plus priorities: support learners in the acquisition of learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences); active citizenship of young people in terms of providing social change in their own local community; Integration of Roma; Inclusion and equality.
The project is to help youth workers and leaders meet challenges of the future, overcome obstacles and become leaders so that they can make a difference and influence in their local communities for and with Roma marginalized youth. It address the question how a conceptual reframing of challenging marginalisation as a key competence of European citizens can impact civic education, solidarity and social inclusion. Project aims to build youth workers with knowledge and skills to encounter the Roma marginalization by tacking local initiatives and campaigns
To develop the skills of youth workers and multipliers of key concepts of leadership, community
organizing and forum theater as non-formal educational methods in their work with Roma young people
To empower youth workers to take actions and develop initiatives by and with Roma marginalized young people tackling the issues of social exclusion and marginalization in their local communities;
To give information about important forms of exclusion with the explicit aim of breaking negative stereotypes;
To exchange and share realities about the marginalization and social exclusion faced by Roma
young people from different European countries
