Europe against the stigmatization of Roma
Intolerant attitudes and racism toward the Roma are pervasive throughout the Europe. The annuals reports of EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies up to 2020 noted significant parts of the Roma population continue to struggle with challenges we like to believe no longer exist in the EU. Homes without running water or electricity, lack of health insurance, and even hunger continue to be realities for unacceptable shares of the Roma community. Intercultural dialogue remains to be considered as the biggest challenge in the Roma inclusion. Surveys shows high rate of intolerance towards Roma.
On the other hand most of the Roma believes that they have not benefited from the achievement of the European Union or put in question its achievements because the Roma are excluded and rarely consulted, their involvement is marginal, and their voice is not heard during the policy-making process. This project aims to raise a debate about tolerance, diversity and intercultural dialogue as vital elements of Roma inclusion, and to strengthen the civic and democratic participation of marginalized Roma citizens, communities and civil society organizations in European Union’s life, debates and policy-making processes tackling the Roma inclusion.
Moreover the project tackles the AntiGypsysm on both: institutional and public level as an overall cause for long term Roma exclusion. The project plans using of new media and new channels of communication in order to raise interest and include young people in civic engagement processes.
